Salon Decor Tips

Your salon’s first impression is very important. In an industry based on style, here are 5 tips that will ensure you meet client expectations while staying true to your own décor style.
  1. Think Of Your Ideal Clientele Paint a picture (in your head) of your ideal client and visualize the services you want to offer, salon menu pricing, and what salon design elements could attract this client. For example, if you display bold art and pop music but want to offer relaxing scalp massages and mini facials, it would be difficult to create a tranquil environment and client experience. Beverages are also important! Coffee, water, tea – pick one or a few and offer them to every person in your chair and add the cost of beverages into your salon services. For example, if you spend $300/mo on beverages and you see 80 clients a month on average, add $3.75 to each service you offer.
  2. Pick A Theme Make sure the theme and furniture reflect your ideal client and services. A trendy city professional will likely want a different experience than a middle aged client in a rural village. Depending on which clientele you are going for, decorate accordingly. The themes you could choose from are endless: bold, traditional, classic, modern, tranquil, urban, boutique, vintage… picking a theme, even if it’s eclectic, will help with a cohesive aesthetic. Make a mood board to help you bring a vision to life!
  3. Be Creative Our industry is about expression! Even if your clients are primarily root touch-ups, don’t be ashamed to show off your creative side. Maybe you’ll inspire a new change it up every now and then. Use flare and individuality, repurpose salon tools for art. When all else fails, look at Pinterest for thousands of ideas.
  4. Consider ALL Spaces Everywhere your customer can see is a reflection on your business. Keep it consistent (remember your theme) and don’t forget your outdoor or bathroom space. An appealing window display and a great sign with your social media information is a way of getting noticed. Placing special touches in the bathroom like changing robes, hangers, plants, candles, toiletries are things that will make your client feel comfortable in your space.
  5. Clear Clutter It is easy to have a lot of bottles, products and photos around the salon. Whether you are in a large or small space remember that these items collect a lot of dust! Clients are less likely to buy a dusty product on your shelf and will not feel like staying around long if your space is not tidy. Clear off the counters and waiting area, dust weekly, check the bathroom between guests, and keep your shampoo bowls clean! Adding design elements is important but eliminating clutter is crucial.
Remember, clients notice these things more often than not, allow them to relax and stay awhile – they will continue coming back and spending more if you provide the right environment on top of your incredible salon services!
