Celebrate International Women’s Day with Stylist Amanda Casey

Celebrated on March 8 every year, International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to honoring the achievements of women throughout history and across the globe. It is a day for ALL women to band together to fight for gender parity and women’s rights. Through Wellastore Prostories, we connected with one inspiring stylist’s mission to pay it forward within her own community – read more on her story and vision below!

What is your ‘pay it forward’ mission?: Offering free haircuts to low-income families in the summer before school starts
How did you first get the idea?: Our family lived in Texas for years, and ever since I was in hair school, I had the privilege of being a part of the “Back To School Rally.” There, people from all over Tarrant County would get together to help serve lower-income families, including my family. They had dentists, people doing hearing screenings, gave away backpacks and school supplies, and helped parents fill out the paperwork needed to set their kids up for the free/reduced lunches. I was blessed to have been one of the many hairdressers that volunteered to give free haircuts. It was an event that touched my heart not only because it helped my family with our 3 kids, but the look on all the kid’s faces and, most importantly, the parents’ faces that they had a way to make their kids feel good about starting the new school year fresh and confident.
Recent milestones: I just celebrated my 1st year working in the salon I am at, and the best part is I am my own boss, and I have the support of the rest of the girls working at the salon. It has been such a fantastic opportunity to share and grow with the women I work with over the last year, and I can’t imagine a better place. My husband and i are finally in a stable enough place that we are trying to have a baby which has been a dream of ours for many years 🤞🤞🤞 the best part about it is that the owner of my salon is a single mother who has created her salon as a safe place that supports and encourages moms that want to achieve greatness in their field but also want to be there for their babies!!!
How can others support and get involved?: The best thing is to get involved in your community figure out where and what services are needed. I love that our community has a great group page on Facebook…in fact, the next event I will be a part of is a grand opening for an event/wedding venue. The owner is setting up her grand opening as a resource fair where anyone and everyone from around town can be a part of the grand opening and share with one another and other community members the services they offer. There will be caterers, florists, photographers, and I have also volunteered to represent our salon as a Hair and Make-up Artist.
