What do you love about the pro beauty industry?
It’s cutting edge, creative and it’s a leader in beauty and fashion. I also enjoy what drives it is education.
What is the most meaningful part of your role as a Black artist in beauty?
The most meaningful for me is to represent diversity. Seeing hair not as a skin color but a texture, a fabric that can go anywhere from super smooth to super coarse.
What is fun fact about you?
I have a collection of over 100 bow ties.
Who is someone that inspires you most?
Saint Laurent in fashion, John Coltrane in music, and Vidal Sassoon in hair. Men who wanted to master their craft, change the industry, but do so in a classy professional way.
What is your favorite Wella, Nioxin, OPI, ghd, Clairol, Color Charm, Kadus or Sebastian product and why?
EIMI Perfect Me – it’s great for all hair types, it adds shine, tames frizz, adds moisture. Good on wet or dry hair. It’s just an amazing product.
Do you have any tips for those who are uncomfortable servicing textured hair?
Take a class. Keep an open mind and don’t shy away from curly coily textures. Curly hair clients make loyal customers.
