Artist Spotlight: Oliver

Name: Oliver “KolorKing” Adams @KolorKing
Occupation / Salon Name: Salon Owner/Master Colorist, Splash Studios – Atlanta GA
What do you love about the pro beauty industry? I love the beauty industry for so many reasons, but what I love most about it is that we get to use our creativity and vision daily, while coupling that with our entrepreneurial spirit, to create amazing spaces that uplift and transform people for the better! Stylists AND Clients!!
What is the most meaningful part of your role as a Black artist in beauty? I love being mentioned as one of the top black stylists in the industry because it’s so important to continue the legacy that so many amazing black artists before me started! In this day and age, it’s easy to get lost as a Black artist in an industry dominated by non-Black manufacturers. So, for me to be able to work for the #1 color company in the world and represent for the “Black” market means everything to me because we have a very strong voice and it must be heard!
What is fun fact about you? I am VERY silly and I love to dance and have a great time!
Who is someone that inspires your most? Sooo many people have inspired me over the years, but I would say the top 3 artists that I grew up emulating would be my father James Adams (Clairol Educator/Platform Artist), Shirley Gordon (Wella Top Artist), Christopher & Sonya Dove (Wella Global Directors)
What is your favorite Wella, Nioxin, OPI, ghd, Clairol, Color Charm, Kadus or Sebastian Product and why? Clairol Liquid Color (Permanent) more specifically the High Lift Blondes (12A, 12N, 12AA, 12G)
Do you have any tips for those who are uncomfortable servicing textured hair? The key to coloring textured hair is to always formulate with the best interest of the texture in mind!! The client’s request might not always align with what’s best for their natural texture so it’s always important to stay within the limits of the texture and adjust the final desired color result to fit that!
