Occupation / Salon Name: Manicurist, Pamper’d – Carson / Long Beach, CA
What do you love about the pro beauty industry?
Being a professional Manicurist allows me the opportunity to engage and connect with my clients, giving them a safe trustworthy environment to pamper and spoil them like they deserve. It’s a blessing to have talent and passion, but when you combine it with education and skillful training it not only gives you the confidence, but it also gives the client assurance to relax and enjoy the magic. On the personal side, I love the Community, Support and Love that’s shared amongst other Manicurists. Selflessly mentoring, sharing tips, product knowledge, tutorials and business experience so we all can be great together! I’ve meet some of the most amazing talented Manicurists on my journey, I’m so thankful for their hearts, talent and knowledge. They help/challenge me to become better each day, I’m constantly learning and sharpening my skills. In this industry Sharing is truly caring and the beauty of it all is, there is enough for all of us to enjoy!
What is the most meaningful part of your role as a Black artist in beauty?
Representation!!! I’m often amazed when I hear the statement “Wow, Black Girls do Nails??” Ummm, YES we do, and we do them WELL:-) African American Manicurist have ALWAYS been around, but unfortunately we are the least represented in the “Professional” Industry. BUT, We are Present! We are Extremely Talented! We are Skilled! We are Professional! We deserve to not only be seen, but also Hired and Payed at a competitive market value. No longer should we be an afterthought with Brands, Magazines and Marketing, we should be included with a seat at each and every table! There should be a reserved seat not just for one of us but rather several seats for many of us!! Like with Vice President Kamala Harris, we should be able to see ourselves represented in every industry, so others may see us and believe they too can do it!
What is fun fact about you?
I have an Addiction to “Smiling”!! I literally came out of the womb smiling lol and some days my cheeks are sore from smiling all day 🙂
Who is someone that inspires you most?
There are actually 3 people that equally inspire me.
My sister who recently passed away (December), her Strength, Courage and Ability to always speak her truth, she inspires me to be Fearless.
My Father’s Dedication and Tenacity inspired me to be an Entrepreneur and follow in his footsteps.
My Mother’s Heart and Thoughtfulness has inspired to be a Servant and a Cheerful Giver.
What is your favorite OPI Product and why?
I seriously LOVE all things OPI, they are all things Quality! If I had to choose one it would be the OPI Pro Spa cuticle oil, it’s like the gift the keeps on giving. The smell and quality of the oil keeps my cuticles soft, moisturized and smiling.
What is your favorite OPI shade?
My favorite color is Yellow, so I choose “Sun, Sea, and Sand in My Pants”
