Foilyage Color Melt

If you haven’t tried using a foilyage and color melt technique on your clients, there’s no better time than now since it’s the quickest way to go significantly lighter in one visit. Foilyage and color melt is the best of both worlds since you get a more contrasting balayage, for increased clarity and lightness. We love how Field Signature Artist, Christopher Cetroni utilized these techniques combined with zig zag sectioning to create a strong and expressive blonde, personalized for his model’s face shape and skin tone.
“I used our new BlondorPlex to create soft, seamless transitions from the natural root to the impactful, lightened ends. For my color melt I melted tones of English Toffee, Caramel and Vanilla using Color Touch.” – Christopher Cetroni, Field Signature Artist
Food analogies are always great to use when consulting with clients on color melt tones since it provides a clear, visual reference and adds value to the service with personalized formulas. And if your client has reservations about going lighter for fear of damage, reassure her by using NEW BlondorPlex for no compromise on lift and up to 97% less breakage*.

Formula:

Lightener = BlondorPlex + Welloxon Perfect 20 Volume

Step by Step:

  1. Create a star section starting approximately 2cm from the front hairline and to the crown area. Take the points of your star to create triangle sections. Gently backcomb each triangle and use heavyweight foils to apply BlondorPlex with 20 volume Welloxon developer to the hair that was not backcombed.
  2. Continue working your way to the sections at the top of the head. When you get to the front hairline combine weaving and slicing techniques to personalize for your client’s face and hairline density while getting the maximum lift. Process until the desired level of lightness is reached.
  3. Section the hair for your color melt application by separating the front hairline framing the face. Next, take a deep zig-zag starting from the front hairline to the nape area. Use 2 – 3 different formulas to create a toffee, caramel, and vanilla color melt. Start by applying your darker “toffee” formula to the regrowth working from the nape to the front hairline but leave out the hairline until last to avoid going too dark. Use each side of the zig-zag partings to alternate your caramel and vanilla formulas.
  4. Next, apply your lightest shade at the hairline. Use the formula that best complements your client’s skin tone (warm or cool).

Pro Tips:

  • If you don’t have heavyweight foils available, use a balayage board to thoroughly saturate each section and then develop in a regular foil.
  • When toning the front hairline, gently tap the root area with your darker “toffee” formula. This helps create a softer, face-framing money piece.
