Akela Douglass taught @wellaeducation viewers four heat-free ways to twistout naturally curly to coily hair using her favorite products from Wella Professional NutriCurls and Sebastian Professional Dark Oil. #PROTIPS for shampoo & detangling:
- Section the client’s hair into 4 sections and shampoo one section of hair thoroughly at a time.
- Detangle with a wide-tooth comb starting at the ends and work your way up to roots. Repeat again with a finer tooth comb.
Two-Strand Twist
This technique is used to elongate curls, especially tight curls like spirals to coils.
- Section the entire head into 1-inch sections (or bigger) in a brick lay $image
pattern.
- Use two pumps of Nutricurls Curlixir Balm per section and split each section evenly into two strands.
- Wrap the two strands around each other, wrapping one on top of the next. Keep in mind the direction of the twists to alternate for a more natural curl.
- At the very end of the twist, lightly twirl the ends together. This is a great technique to teach your clients in between appointments!
If you are creating two-strand twists for your client, they can be left in for days to weeks. Akela typically sends her clients home with their twists left in for 2-3 days and will either book a 30-minute appointment to twist them out, or she teaches her clients how to twist out!
Once the set is ready to be taken out, apply a few pumps of Dark Oil into your hands to prevent frizz and gently untwist each section. When the two strands are untwisted, gently break apart the strands to expose beautiful texture. BLACK HAIR HISTORY: This technique dates back centuries ago! Akela shared an Ancient African bust with twists!
