Break Down the Barriers of Toning with Wella Professionals Color

Wella Color Experts Edward Sweeney and Annet Svensson explain the principles of lightening and toning. Learn how to strengthen the decisions you make as a colorist to create better services for your clients.  This video below will guide you through your decision process to better understand how to perfect pre-lighten hair through infusing and neutralizing tone.
Understand the Lightening Process
Natural pigment inside the hair are dissolved and the majority of the tonality is removed. Therefore, we see warm tones in the hair when breaking down black, brown, and beige melanin. By lightening the hair, you create red, orange, and yellow tones. We judge these tones using the lightening curve. It helps us assess what depth the hair is at and guides us to which depth we need to tone the hair.
Never Lighten Passed Very Pale Yellow
Keratin is the main structural protein in human hair, and when keratin breaks down. It also has an off-yellow tone. Therefore, we never lighten the hair to white. If Keratin is heavily removed, you have seriously damaged the hair.
Determine what to Tone with
After lightening the hair, you must decide which tonal shade will deliver your desired results. To determine what tone to use, always look at the exposed tone in the hair after you have lightened and ask yourself do I want to use it, or do I want to lose it? You can then decide what product and service are most suitable for your client’s desired result.
Key Toning Services + Color Formula Options
Glossing Service with Koleston Perfect
If you want to add a little tone or to refine the warm tones already in the hair or make a slight adjustment. Koleston Perfect would work well as you don’t need to dramatically alter the tone and it will also give you healthy-looking hair.
Glaze Service with SHINEFINITY
To keep the natural characteristics of the hair and create a shimmering deal of depth you should select a glaze. SHINEFINITY gives results that keep the hairs playful, highs and lows, with results that can be warm, cool, or neutral.
Traditional Blonde Toning with Illumina Color
Ideal if you would like to change the color of the hair by establishing a completely new color or by neutralizing unwanted yellow tones. Illumina Color is your go-to toning service, that will deliver reflective blondes with beautiful sheer tones.
Transformative Toning with Color Touch
Truly transformative results that are intense, rich, vibrant, and super shiny. Color Tough is your go-to for low commitment transformations.
